3rd November 2007 - Company Parade

The day started off with the bandsman test by Captain Tan and Miss Foo. The test started around 9 and was followed by the usual band practice. At 2 25 p.m. while I was having a squad meeting with B1, I was informed that I will be the NCO in charge for the parade. Being briefed merely minutes before the real deal, I almost panicked because it was my very first time doing in it. In addition, I had a minor sore throat. Against all odds I took the challenge (thank God the officer in charge was Mr. Jason =).Singsparation was conducted by Corporal Wong Hoe Kit on behalf of squad C2 which I felt went on successfully. Then members broke off for Christian Education and awards. Drill was basically the same weekly routine. This time around, the drill squad was divided into two groups lead by two Drill basic holders, LCpl Cham Kwan Weng and LCpl Khoo Ming Yuan. They were assigned to take over their respective squads for a couple of weeks. Next was the closing parade. The tension eased a little during closing even though I was still slightly nervous. Then a few of us stayed back for basketball until dusk.

WELL IN THE END IT’S THE EXPIRIENCE THAT COUNTS = )

10th November 2007 - Company Parade

Today’s parade stated as usual with the band. However many people (including officers) came late due to the rain which caused the traffic jam. This traffic jam isn’t the normal one because there is a riot at Dataran Merdeka. We were advised by the officers not to wear yellow today.

The band practiced a few songs which will be played at Medan for the company trip. We had our practice at the Dojo and the hall from 12.30pm to 2.00pm.Then it was time for opening at 2.30pm after ‘resting’ a while. The attendance was 65 present 20 excused and the rest absent. There were also some ‘ghost’ members because their names are in the squad list but they are often missing in action. The singspiration is led by the primers. However right after beginning to enjoy the song the whole thing (computer and projector) went down and we ended up playing taking off our boots and shoes and putting them on again.

Christian Education was cancelled todaybecause many of the instructors were busy or late. The award class continued as usual. Then it was drill time. As many were late the previous week all the Boys came very early for drill. As a result all of them were early for drill. After drill, it was time for closing parade.

All this didn’t end the parade many had to stay back for the Medan trip meeting and it ended at about 7.10pm

A normal meeting day with a few surprises

The day started off with band practice as usual at 12.00pm, I wasn't there so I don't know what happened. Then followed by Opening Parade at 2.30 pm. The NCO in-charge for the day was me, Corporal Ignatius Goh (buahahahaha XD, didn't do for long time already so was a bit nervous :p) The attendance for the day was 80 present, 13 excuse and 30 absent (considered below average by my standards) Next was Singsparation lead by Corporal Wong Hoe Kit, which i find was a bit zombie like, partly because SOMEBODY couldn't make in and informed Corporal Wong late. In other news, SOMEBODY with an American accent is BACK. That somebodies name starts with a C.. He is none other then Sergenat Hooi Chin Gian He is as Energetic, and Crazy(in a good way Xp) as ever. Just a brief history on Sergeant Hooi's disappearance, after weeks after the 50th musical, Mr Hooi went on study leave to well, study for his major exams, which was by the way very stressful for him according to his mom). Next, Bible Study, which went on smoothly as always. Followed by Awards, currently we are conducting Target class for all the freshies, Computer Knowledge Class;both basic and advance(which by the way is massive just ask Primer Tan Kok Yau) and Safety Class; Basic (taught by me, buahahahahaha XD) and Advance by Primer Sanjay(aka SANJAYA!! XD) and primer Sim. Next, Drill class, today we announced the results of the last test (basic paying Complement) mostly passed but to those who failed Don't Give Up!! This is merely an obstacle that God has put in front of you to improve yourself :) We had a really whacky Competition(created by our Captain) where the commanding boy is challenge to shout the name of their comrades in random arrangement in the shortest time possible. Objective of this challenge is Learn how to shout like a commander, know your friends name(ice-breaker), to build self confidence. (Hmm wonder if i missed out anything) The Winner of the Challenge was Lance Corporal Benjamin (YAY!!!). At about 6.00pm we had our closing parade. As usual, at the beginning of the parade was the announcements and reminders(Especially for the Medan trip fella's). Oh, just to let the world know Our Captain is gonna be a FATHER in February 2008(according to Mr.Tan) God Bless Mr. Tan, his family and 3rd KL company.

This is Corporal Ignatius Goh reporting.

19th May 2007 - Company Parade

Present: 105
Excused : 12
Absent : 18

OIC : WO. Joe Wong replacing WO. Jason Khoo
Duty Nco : LCpl Kenny Ho Yew Hon
Squad Duty : A2

Today's start was normal with the Band practice. We were asked to help one of YMCA's friend Mr Tsui, a music lover. We helped him play and record a marching band song. It was a short, easy, nice and enjoyable song. During the full band, we practice the song and recorded it and it turn out very nice! I was really excited about my first NCO duties as Parade Commander. Kept thinking if there was anything I missed out. There was so much I had to do and such.

Well, the parade started around 2.35pm. After opening parade with Anchor song and opening prayer we all gathered at the hall for A2's leading of the day. They sang a song with the company and played a game with them about passing a ball with their legs as the music goes on. It was kind of enjoying for most of them.

After leading from Squad A2, we had Bible study with Lt. Alan Yong leading. We discussed about why we are here in this Boys' Brigade. Then everyone moved to their own sections of our Golden Jubilee Musical practice after Bible study.

It was until 5.35pm everyone gathered back down at the basketball court for the closing parade. Attendance did change and it became more! haha...Band council was postphoned to next week and there is a performance for School Teachers' Day, lead by Corporal Wong Hoe Kit.
After closing, some Boys' looked for others for dinner, some others went for meetings. SMKTD Exco members were called for a short meeting to discuss a few problems. After that everyone went home.

14th April 2007 - Company Parade

* This should be below the previous post... =P

On this day, I had my piano exam in the morning. After that, I received an SMS from Sgt. Lim requesting to swap duties for Sgt. Major. I was already running late, so I rushed home, polished up my uniform and headed for YMCA. I arrived about half an hour before band practice was over.

During squad meeting, attendance was not very encouraging, but for Parade, the attendance recorded is:

Present: 97
Excused: 15
Absent: 29

Before that, during squad meeting, only about 40-50 boys were downstairs for squad meeting. There seemed to be a certain lack of urgency to attend uniform inspection (sq. meeting) , or the boys are just afraid of the scorching sun. However, this attitude cannot be tolerated and should not be repeated in the future.

After an opening parade in unusually hot weather conditions, we moved into the hall for singspiration, followed by announcements .Then, we were split up into our separate sessions for Golden Jubilee practice. The band went down to do some marching practice, the juniors had their singing practice, while Cpl. Soo taught the recruits BB Knowledge component for their Target Badge. Then, the basketballers, creative drillers and recruits had their respective practices. Today, there was a bit of time wasted in between sessions partly due to the rain, the lack of urgency mentioned earlier and also partly due to the fact that the boys were not yet used to the new timetable for Golden Jubilee Rehearsals and needed some time to adjust.

After rehearsal was Drill time for seniors and then closing parade at around 5.40 p.m.

21st April 2007 - Company Parade

Present: 103
Absent: 25
Excuse: 14

OIC: Mr. Jason Khoo
Duy NCO: Sgt. Lim Han Sheng
Squad Duties: C2

Well for today, the day started as early as 7.30am at Pathways. SMK Taman Desa drill team members had a camp the day before as preparation for the coming inter-school competition this coming week. The morning training lasted till around 10am and off to YMCA for band.

The weather was fine until opening parade at around 2.30pm when the showers began. All officers were present except for Mr. Tan and Mr. Lawrence who were up north in Penang for the Brigade Council Meeting (BCM). Mr. Yong was present for a while and had to leave because his newborn baby girl was sick (please pray for her). Opening parade was extended till around 3.05pm today due to certain habits such as being late/slow, leaving cups behind hoping that it walks to the dustbin and certain amount of lost and found items.

C2, the squad on duty led singspiration. A few announcements were made before we had another singing session. This time it was led by our very own Mr. Joe teaching our finale song for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations ‘I Just Can’t Stop The Music’.

Next was band for the seniors and dancing for the juniors. As for the recruits it was Target Badge class for them. SMK Taman Desa drillers had their run again while Sgt. Hooi led the remaining members during drill. Juniors had a short drill before going off for sports.

At approximately 5.35pm, the company had closing parade. The rain poured again just after 5 minutes the company close. The band council meeting was the last program for the day which started at 7pm.

Total: 98 Presents, 12 Excuses, 17 Absent

Duty NCO - Cpl. Soo Jie Cong
Squad Duties – B2
Officer in Charge – W/O Joe Wong

Parade Report

The band started late because of miss communication among leaders that’s no band practice because of SMK Taman Desa Awards Day, and the person in-charge did not bring the band room key along.

After opening parade we had our singspiration lead B2 squad leader Cpl Ong, he sang me a birthday song(TQ?) but I get beaten up by 50++ members.

After that, we have award briefing by W/O Ng, and a reminder about we already pass the deadline to pass up our membership fees & form.

Then we have drill practice, as usual SMK Taman Desa School Drill had their own practice but everyone looks blur. I would like to give a big thanks to Lcpl Tay & Cpl Tiang for helping me up to train the recruits for drill while I need to go for GJC creative drill.

We had our closing parade after drill section at 5.45pm.

Personal Opinion
Any person also should not get beaten up by any people some more BB members likes to hit the birthday boy just because he is birthday, didn’t give any present some more hit that person, what kind of discipline is this 3rd KL boys !? … for 7 April 2007 is ok but future I will make sure this kind thing will not happen anymore!! Because this is not the right habits and its show BB members not discipline at all.

Extra

Some of the members went to Dataran Merdeka for the Kuala Lumpur State School Band Competition after BB parade.

Attached are some of the picture:

Parade Report
This week the first bach of recruits came for their first parade. They reached YMCA at around 11am. There were 19 new recruits. Around 12pm. Cpl Wong Hoe Kit briefly introduced the band instruments to the recruits. After that, they had games session conducted by LCpl Ng Jiehan. Cpl Wong Hoe Kit, together with squad A2, conducted singspiration. The recruits were asked to introduce themselves during this time. Because of the recruits and lack of officer for that day, CE and Awards were cancelled. During drill time, the whole company bas been divided into two groups, those who join the Zon Bangsar Drill Team, and those who are otherwise. The Zon Bangsar Drill Team has decided to go for drill practice despite the rain. After about 15-20 minutes, the drill tam members are asked to go to Hibiscus 2. WO Ng Yee Khai explained to the team the reason of having drill in the rain. It's for us to train ourselves to march in the rain. Example: how fast/slow do you need to march while you are on a wet/dry ground? Unfortunately, Pte. Chen Yuen Sheng's phone and wallet was stole sometime during parade, only realizing it went missing after he left it in the toilet. Closing was conducted by WO. Kenny Voon.
